Public Figure Assassinated -- Predictable Results

 

This has been one fuxxored weekend. On Sunday morning, while working as an usher at his church, Dr. George Tiller was killed in cold blood. Being that Dr. Tiller was quite the controversial public figure, the whackos from both sides of the aisle are out in force.

Let's just keep it short and sweet:

Rightwing Loonies: The Godlessimmoralliberals™ dunnit to provide Pres. Obama the excuse he needs to collect all the guns from all the gun owners, to start up those FEMA concentration camps and begin filling them with Xians, Republicans, and Conservatives.

Leftwing Loonies: An Angrywhitemale™ dunnit. They're hiding out there in the woods, clinging to their Bibles, guns, and bitterness. Timothy McVeigh rides again! This is but the opening shot of CivilWarII™ and they're gonna be gunning down liberals in the streets any minute now, unless Pres. Obama gets his ass in gear and sets up a Department of Domestic Terrorism -- they really are calling for yet another layer of bureaucracy to solve this "problem", seeing how effective bureaucracy has already proved itself.

All the usual political axes are coming out for a grinding.

Of course, the real lesson will go unlearned. How does shit like this happen? Take the most amoral philosophy ever devised: Calvinistic Fundievangelicalism™ with its stated antinomianism (once saved, always saved and all your future sins are gimmie's) absolute, unquestioning belief in their own rectitude, and 30 years of neo-"con" deception, and violent eruptions of frustration are inevitable. Ever since the first Reagan campaign, these neo-"cons" have been stringing these folks along.

During his first term, Reagan claimed he would be too busy fixing the economy Jimmy Carter wrecked to make sure all public school kids were praying in class, learning Creation instead of Evil-u-shun in biology, to force those queers back into the closet, and the women back into the kitchen, and to find a cozy jail cell Hugh Heffner, Bob Guccione, Al Goldstein, and Larry Flynt could share. Jerry Falwell said that was OK. All Reagan ever did was make pretty speeches about "Pro-life", but it was all talk.

Reagan won by a landslide, partly due to Fundievangelicals™ who believed he would keep the very promises he broke during his first term. As did George H. W. Bush, and then George W. Bush. And 30 years later, abortion is still legal, queers are still out, pr0nz is more available than ever.

The GOP needs to take these issues off the table, as Barry Goldwater suggested back in the early 1980s. Admit that Roe v. Wade is here to stay, gay marriage is going to happen as soon as the states begin to make provisions for it, forced prayer isn't coming back to the schools, and Evil-u-shun is going to be the foundation of biology curricula -- and we, the GOP, could not care less. Then these Fundievangelicals™ could go back to saving souls through their churches, and not the RNC. And definitely not through the barrel of a gun.

This will never happen since these neo-"cons" have no other game plan. They had their chance, and only managed to fuck up everything they touched, including the Republican Party itself. Problem is: not even a Fundievangelical™ is stupid enough to be fooled forever.

Either we get these neo-"cons" the hell out of the GOP, or we watch the GOP go the way of the Whigs.
