Fundie Whacko Abandons GOP

Here is an article I found in today's paper: An Ideosyncratic Shift from the GOP by Kathleen Parker.

Just as news breaks that political fund raising is down for both parties, Republicans have lost one of their more generous contributors.

In what one might call a biblical move, Christian philanthropist Howard Ahmanson -- one of three major funders of California's Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriages -- has abandoned the GOP for the Democratic party.
[...]
In a rare interview Thursday, Ahmanson shared some of his thoughts about why he switched parties. In a word, taxes.

Specifically, he was offended by the California Republican party's insistance during a recent state budget battle that there would be no tax increases for any reasons, no matter what... At 58, Ahamnson is recognized as one of the nation's leading evangelical Christians and one of conservativism's most reliable supporters, though he is hardly a Republican talking point man.

(Note: Emphasis Mine)

Now, I have been saying right here in Ell-Jay land that the Republican party was making a big mistake appealing to these Fundievangelical™ whackos, and that the whole theo-con/so-con reliance was a complete dead end. Well, folks, here's your proof. These Xians don't really give a rat's ass about conservative principles. California is one of the most heavily taxed states in the union, and people are leaving en masse because of it. It just is not possible to live there anymore, and it's not possible to do business there. They have bled the tax base white, and now they're losing what's left of it.

But this dipshit Fundie doesn't care about that at all. The appeal of the welfare state as doing one's "Xian charity" is way too appealing (never mind that J. C. himself said charity should come from the individual Xian, but then they're always overlooking all those inconvenient parts of the "Good Book" anyway). Keep the fags from getting married, save the ZEFs, make kids pray in school, that's about the extent of their "conservative" principles. So far as anything else is concerned, well, they're not concerned.

Listen up GOP-ers: stop pandering to these dipshits! What good did it do you with that fucknozzle Ahmanson? If the Dems want him, they're welcome to him. Take some more of these Fundievangelicals™ please. Quite frankly, we're tired of pretending to care about ZEFs, or make belief that the universe is just 6,000 years old and that Adam and Eve played with dinosaurs in the Garden of Eden, and all the rest of the bullshit.

You need to spell it out:

  • Lower taxes, much lower.

  • Smaller gov't, including whacking entire departments, starting with Education, Energy, Veterans Affairs.

  • Increased personal freedom: repeal all victimless crimes.

  • Immediate pardons for all non-violent prisoners convicted of victimless crimes.

  • Noninterventionist foreign policy coupled with military strength.

  • Audit the Federal Reserve, if elimination proves impractical.

Here's a list for starters, now hop to it. Run on that, and actually fucking do it and you won't be needing these whackos to win elections. We're waiting, are you ready to lead? If not, then kindly get the hell out of the way.

"Lower taxes, much lower."

Forgive me if we covered this (you know how adle brained I am), but regardless if the GOP got in or not, there still would have been some form of bailout and public guarantee (albeit a fraction of the Dem's, I'm sure).... with lower taxes, how would it have been paid?

Unforch, we're not talking about the GOP as it is, but as it should be. The GOP, no less than the Dems, are beholden to corporate interests. Sure, there would have been a bail out. The whole "TARP" program started under GWB's watch, not Obama's. However, there should not have been. This was totally avoidable, and GWB had years to correct the problem by demanding the repeal of the Community Reinvestment Act and Clinton administration regulations that forced banks into making these risky, "subprime" loans. This should have been done back in 2001. The message should have gone out long ago: no such thing as "too big to fail", and that Uncle Sucker won't be there to back all the bad bets. You want to take chances? Do it on your own dime, and if you lose, too bad, so sad, but Uncle Sucker won't come riding to the rescue.

They didn't do it, and, in fact, GWB made it even worse: American Dream Downpayment Act. The GOP has never really gotten over the shell shock of the Hoover and Great Depression days. Ever since, the best they've been able to make on their supposed principles is to "me too" the Democrats, but just make it cost less. They've been nothing more than "Democrat Lite" for all too long now. Why vote for Democrat Lite when you can vote for the real thing? Other than empty promises to Fundievangelical™ whackos, what else do they bring to the table? They've been fooling these Fundies for thirty years now. However, not even a Fundievangelical™ true believer is stupid enough to be fooled forever. Even they wise up, and realize the Republican elites aren't going to be giving they what they want.

The ironic thing is that We the People are waiting for true leadership. Look at Reagan's two landslide victories: he talked the talk but would not walk the walk. He promised reduced gov't; he promised to whack departments and cut the bureaucracy down to size. he did none of it, and in the end, made the bureaucracy that much bigger. The Dept of Veterans Affairs was Reagan's doing, remember. If they would actually act, and not just talk, they might start winning elections again.

Dead Heat in NY Congressional Race, But Obama Undermined. Here is an election that the Dems should have won by big margins. This Congressional district is mainly Democratic, it voted by big margins for Obama last November, and yet these folks are already sick and tired of Mr. Hopechange. This was a vote of "no confidence", and it's becoming increasingly clear that the "honeymoon" is over, and the "buyer's remorse" setting in big time. We the People are ready for leadership, real leadership, that can reverse the disasterous course and restore the Republic. Is the GOP ready to take that role? Doesn't look like it from here. So it will continue to be the same old, same old: throw the Dem bums out, wait four years, throw the Repub bums out, wash, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum. Either the GOP wises up, or it becomes a permanent minority party. If that's to be the case, better that it simply go away and make room for a true conservative party.

That's the supreme tragedy of the whole sorry affair.
